“Last year, the competitors told us they wanted more challenging and exciting courses, and we listened," said Steve Donahue of the planning committee.

There will be three different courses this year – an upwind/downwind course for the racers, a separate course for the cruising classes, and a “Beach Jam” course for all classes.  “The “Beach Jam” course will be the most exciting for both competitors and spectators”, he continued.

“All the boats will be rounding marks right off the beach at both Cap Juluca and Cuisinart Resorts – just a few feet from shore.”  Plans were then presented for other events going on during the Regatta. Peter Parles said: “Along with the annual “Battle of the Banks” in the 12 meter America’s Cup boats, we hope to have a few “surprise” challenges this year.  We think it will be really exciting to see these beautiful boats come in to Maundays Bay and Rendezvous Bay, just feet from the beach.  Also, we'll have the traditional “Mix Up” races on both the yachts and the local sailboats.“

Finally, Laurie Gumbs briefed everyone on the entertainment: “Great parties again this year - Thursday night at Roy’s, Friday night at Johnno’s, Saturday night at Pumphouse, and for the first time this year, live music on the beach at Sandy Ground Sunday night. Also, we’ll be arranging with local charter boats to offer special packages for groups who want to follow the races by boat.”

Details for all the events going on during the Regatta on May 12, 13 and 14 can be found at www.sailanguilla.com
