The pair of Justin Castagne and Lise De Montbrun sailing an MR-15 dinghy, took home the President's Trophy on Sunday, May 1, while His Excellency, George Maxwell Richards and his wife, Dr Jean Ramjohn Richards looked on.

They took on some 20 other experienced sailors in their class, like James Arrindell in Jahaji Bhai (fourth place), Jose Mosca in C-MOS (third place) and, Rupert Grimshaw in Merlin (second place).

In the open class there were Racers, Racer/Cruisers, Lasers and SR-Max's, in addition, the Optimist dinghies also took part. Of the 18 Optimists dinghies Stuart Leighton took first place over fellow rival Wesley Scott who came in second, with Matthew Scott third.

The race took just under two hours from start to finish with light winds. At the prize giving ceremony, Michael Rostant, the TTSA's President, thanked His Excellency for showing interest in the sport and by attending this year's event and keeping his promise of going out on a sail boat.

His Excellency, The President expressed his heartfelt appreciation for being invited to view the race from the water and spending an enjoyable and fascinating day in the company of Captain Paul Hatch and his crew.

He also said "that the sport of sailing imparts its participants with courage, sportsmanship and creative thinking, which can all be used outside of the world of sailing making them better citizens."

The TTSA was also praised for its outreach work done in providing children of all strata of society the opportunity to gain the benefits of sailing.

In closing His Excellency reminded the audience that he kept his promise from last year, which was to go out on the water, and this year he promised to "race next year".
