Team St Croix on its way to victory at last year's event

Approximately 70 children between the ages of 10 and 18 representing 12 Caribbean nations are expected at the fourth annual Chief Minister’s Cup International Youth Regatta to be held on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands this weekend (July 13/14). The two-day event is organized by the Rotary Clubs of Tortola and Road Town and Kids And The Sea (KATS).

Entries have been received from the Cayman Islands, Republic Dominica, St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. John, Virgin Gorda, Antigua/Barbuda, St. Lucia, Bequia/St. Vincent, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago, Tortola.

Winners for the last three years - the team from St Croix spearheaded the three Stanton brothers - will also be returning to defend their crown.

Each team comprises six competitors, a coach and chaperone. Their local Rotary clubs have sponsored their attendance. The teams will be using J/24s and rotating the boats throughout the event.

Competitors will be housed in the ‘Rotary Village’, 8-person tents on the grounds of host Nanny Cay Resort & Marina. “We’ve doubled the number of tents this year so that each team will have two tents with four people in each,” said Tom Gerker, one of the event organizers.
