St. Thomas Takes Top Honours at the 2008 Premier's International Cup
 |
| St. Thomas Team was in fine form, taking top place in the Gold fleet for the 2008 Premier's Cup. | From Trinidad to Puerto Rico, they came- nine teams in all to compete in the 10th Premier's Cup (formally known as the Chief Minister's Cup) at Nanny Cay in the British Virgin Islands. Organized by the Rotary Clubs of Road Town and Tortola and the KATS (Kids and the Sea) Program, the event attracted teams from nine different Caribbean islands. Fifty-one young sailors, ages 8 - 18 competed in near perfect conditions, lots of sunshine, very little chop and 10 - 15 knots of steady breeze. Racing in IC24's, once again the big winner of the event was a very strong St. Thomas team. Although this was the fourth year in a row the St. Thomas team took the top spot, this year there was more of a tussle.

2008 BVI Spring Regatta Ends on a High Note
 |
| John Haracivet hams it up. | With winds hovering about 20, the lightest wind seen all weekend, choppy seas and very blue skies, BVI Spring Regatta wrapped up today. There seemed to be a consensus that today's conditions were the best yet.
Storm, Peter Peake's Reichel Pugh 44, led Spinnaker Racing A all weekend. "We can sail in all air, especially big air and big seas like we had this weekend," says Peake, who owns Peake Marine. "Our main competitor was Oystercatcher. Their rating and ours are so similar it was as if we were racing them boat for boat." The UK's Richard Matthew's Humpheys 42, Oystercatcher XXVI, did finish second with Bill Alcott's Andrews 68, Equation in third.

BVi Spring Regatta Day One: Despite Broaches, Breakdowns, and Bruises, Smiles and Enthusiasm Were the Order of the Day Broaches, breakdowns and a few bruises among crew were the order of the day, with winds gusting to 33 knots across the Sir Francis Drake Channel. But Jeff Gouzer, from France, mainsheet trimmer aboard the Kerr 11.3 Minnie the Moocher, put the scene into perspective; "There’s lots of times we have these kinds of winds back home, but we don’t have the warm water and sun to go with it like we do here. It was really a beautiful race day."
