The Notice of Race and on-line registration form for this Optimist North American and Opti Worlds qualifier has been posted on the St. Croix Yacht Club website, www.stcroixyc.com. St. Croix is expecting over 30 young sailors, ages 8 through 15, to participate the weekend of February 9 and 10, 2008. This unique regatta takes place simultaneously with the St. Croix International Regatta, allowing adult skippers to scout upcoming talent.

New features for 2008 include a beachfront pasta bar at the conclusion of each day’s competition, to get that energy back up, and an on site clubhouse with games, to work the energy off. The over all winner will climb on the scale and receive his or her weight in sports drink – that’s a lot of Gatorade!

Puerto Rico and the US and British Virgin Islands are turning out an exceptional crop of Opti sailors. After they age out of Optimists, at 16, these talented youngsters are moving on to larger dinghies and some are eyeing the Olympics.

Remember to register early! In addition to charters, accommodations are available at Yacht Club members homes on a first come, first serve basis; contact Opti coordinator Karen Stanton at jerseyd1554@yahoo.com or 340-773-9232 for more information.
