Grenada Classics Ready to Set Sail

The Grenada Classics Regatta will be held from February 21st through February 24th 2008. Organizers anticipate the participation of between 20 to 30 classic yachts, vintage yachts, schooners, wooden boats, spirit of tradition and other classics in the first edition of the event in Grenada.

The official Skippers briefing and openings ceremony with cocktail party will take place at the Grenada Yacht Club on Thursday October 18th, 2007 in the late afternoon.

On Friday, the start will be out of St. George’s. The yachts will sail along the Grand Anse Beach coastline and finish back in St. George’s. A lunch buffet and drinks will be offered to all captains, crew, press and VIP’s compliments of Port Louis Grenada. An evening party with a live band will be open to the general public.

Saturday the boats will again start out of St. George’s. The yachts will sail along the southern coast to St. David's, where they will finish in St. David’s Harbour. A buffet lunch dinner will be offered to participants,press and invited VIP guests at the Water’s Edge Restaurant, compliments of Bel Air Plantation. A beach party for all starting around 7.00 pm with a live band is also scheduled.

On Sunday the yachts will leave St. David’s Harbour and sail back to St. George’s. The yachts will sail into the harbour in a parade and return to the docks. West Indies Events is looking into the possibilities to organize a local boat race for the small workboats in the afternoon. An award giving ceremony and cocktail party will be held in the late afternoon followed by the final closing party at Port Louis Marina.

An official sponsor agreement signing was recently held at the Victory Bar, Port Louis Grenada, which is an EC $1.5 billion maritime village and marina currently under development in St. George’s, Grenada. Port Louis Grenada and Bel Air Plantation have signed on as Silver Sponsors. Additional sponsors include Shipwrights Ltd. and the Maritime School of the West Indies. Several other organizations are in the process of committing their sponsorship to the Grenada Classic Yacht Regatta.
