The 2005 Mount Gay Barbados IOM (International One Meter) Championships is set to take place from Thursday July 21 to Saturday July 23 at Worthing, Christ Church. Competing in this inaugural event will be sailors from the USA and Canada as well as the sailors from Barbados.

Barbados is the first Caribbean island to have a recognized class association in the IOM which has active classes throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand and some countries in South America. At present there are ten to twelve active IOM sailors in Barbados, with the more experienced racers like Peter "Rabbit" Allen, who also is one of the main organizers, spearheading the local challenge.
