The Grenada Yacht Club (GYC) has announced it’s Sixth Annual Regatta will be held July 7 - 10, 2005. “Having survived the wrath of Ivan we are ready to have a good celebration and a lot of fun!” Commodore Darryl Brathwaite, went on to say, “Following the rebuilding, we felt it was time to come together and just enjoy ourselves. So that’s our goal for this year’s regatta. Let’s have some Spice Isle Style fun.”
The regatta sailing will leave from beautiful Grand Anse beach and the daily after race partying will be held at the Grenada Yacht Clubhouse. There will be live music with local bands, award ceremonies, and plenty of good food and fun. The Skipper’s Briefing kicks things off on Thursday the 7th at 6:30pm and the racing starts on Friday morning continuing on Saturday and Sunday.
“Because of Ivan we are getting a late start this year,” said club manager Marilyn Steele-McKenzie, “but we are anticipating plenty of generous support from sponsors and an enthusiastic turnout of participants in the races. Like so much of Grenada, the sailing community was hard hit, this will be a chance for everyone to relax and enjoy coming through!”
The GYC welcomes all sailors to the regatta. Along with racing, cruising, charter and multihull classes, live aboard cruisers are actively encouraged to enter in the fun class category. If you intend to race in the Racing or Cruising classes a CSA Certificate will be required at final registration. The Grenada Yacht Club is looking forward to participants from throughout the region coming to this event.
“Grenada is a beautiful country with people of great spirit and hospitality, while the waters here provide spectacular sailing. If you are a sailor or a sailing enthusiast this is a fun opportunity for participants and spectators alike. Our intention is for everyone to have a good time. We would like to emphasize that the racing is governed by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Racing Rules of Sailing for 2005,” explained Commodore Brathwaite. Grenada Yacht Club is also affiliated with the Caribbean Sailing Association, The Marine and Yachting Association of Grenada, The Grenada Sailing Association and the Caribbean Racing Association.
