Eight St.Maarten teams competed for the four slots open to local teams for next weeks North Sails Caribbean Keelboat One Design Keelboat Championship. Variable and shifty winds kept the race committee and competitors on their toes. Big advantages were gained (and lost) on single tacks and the leader board changed with every race. After eight close races Frits Bus took the first place spot with Bernard Sillem in second.

Simon Manley and Luc Knol were tied for third place with the tie breaker going to Simon Manley. The FKG team helmed by Shag Morton tied with Garth Styen for 4th place. The FKG team won that tie breaker.

As it turns out, Frits Bus will be off island next week Bernard Sillem will go forward as first qualifier. The other teams representing St.Maarten in next weeks Championships will be Simon Manley, Luc Knol and The FKG Team. Garth Styen will sail if a slot become available.

Next weekends North sails Regatta promises to be the premier one-design event of the Caribbean with the leading sailors from Trinidad to Puerto Rico coming to St.Maarten to participate. They will race on seven identical boats supplied by Lagoon Sailboat Rental, to be changed after every race, ensuring that only the teams' skills counts.
