Young Opti sailors ready themselves for the "Festival of Wind"
There is a growing interest in Optimists sailing in Trinidad and Tobago and this year regatta organizers have included the young sailors in the Tobago Carnival Regatta line up at Pigeon Point, Tobago from February 10th - 14th, 2009. Inclusion in this international event, will be an opportunity for over sixty Optimists from all over the region and Latin America to hone their skills under the guidance of top international coaches.

The Optimists Program hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Sailing Association, heavily supported by the Tobago House of Assembly, the Tourism Development Company and The Trinidad and Tobago Sports company has shown excellent results, with the young sailors finishing in top positions around the world.

The team at Regatta Promoters Ltd recognise that the inclusion of the Optimists in the larger regatta will encourage more young people to take up the sailing as their sport, and increase the pool of top sailors representing Trinidad and Tobago in regattas around the world in the future.

The kids at TTSA in Carenage have been training hard for this event and as one grinning young girl remarked, " I can't wait to sail in the same regatta as my mom and dad and my older brothers!"

All work and no play is not the mantra of the regatta. There will be cookouts, entertainment and games for the Optimists at the Opti Park, an area designated for the kids, adding to the atmosphere of a "Festival of Wind!"

The Tobago Carnival Regatta 2009 promises to be bigger, faster and action packed with the Optimists, Bum Boats, Wind Surfers and Kite Boarders all coming to Pigeon Point to join the Big boat racers and adding to the excitement of the large boat regatta.

Regatta Promoters Ltd is pulling out all the stops to make sure the Tobago Carnival Regatta is one of the best regattas in the region.
